7 anime with eggs: It’s Easter season!

It’s already spring season and with it, the Easter period has come! As we know, eggs are one of the most iconic symbols during this time of the year.

The anime world also has a few series and movies that revolve around eggs or involve that element in their story. As weird as it sounds, somehow, these anime know how to implement that little detail in their stories splendidly.

Here I bring seven anime with eggs to watch during this season!

1. Shugo Chara!

anime with eggs

Episodes: 127 (Three Seasons)

Synopsis: Everyone may think that Hinamori Amu is a perfect girl who has everything, she’s elegant but cool at the same time. Still, there are a lot of rumours about her and thus, everyone is afraid to get closer to her. But what people don’t know is that Amu, in reality, is really shy and has trouble showing her true self to others.

One night before going to bed, Amu wished to get the courage to show her true self. But she didn’t expect to find three coloured eggs next to her in the morning and when those eggs hatched, she met three Guardian Characters. Those fairy-like entities will change Amu’s life forever but in a complicated way…

If we talk about eggs, one of the most iconic anime that involves that element in its story is Shugo Chara!. It’s a typical yet refreshing anime with magical girls, I know it seems like a kodomo anime, but I’d still recommend it for all ages.

2. Digimon Adventure

Digimon Adventure

Episodes: 104 (Two Seasons)

Synopsis: During summertime, a group of seven kids were enjoying their summer camp until they found some strange devices. Little did they know that these devices would change their lives forever after they suddenly got teleported to another world. In that place, they met some creatures called Digimon and they explained to the kids that they were in the Digital World.

Despite not knowing much about their current situation, the kids start their journey in that world accompanied by the Digimon. Why were they teleported to the Digital World and what kind of dangers await them there?

Digimon is one of my favourite childhood anime that I greatly enjoyed watching after coming from school. Although eggs aren’t the principal element in the anime, the Digimon are born from the Digitama (Digi-eggs). There’s a remake of the Digimon Adventure anime, but I’ll always choose the one from 1999 because it’s worth watching or even re-watching it!

3. Wonder Egg Priority

anime with eggs

Episodes: 12 + 1 Special

Synopsis: After Ai Ohto’s only friend passed away after committing suicide, she found it hard to face reality, thus, she distanced herself from everything and everyone.

One night, when Ai was walking alone, she heard a mysterious voice that led her to a strange place with some gacha devices. Following the instructions given by the mysterious voice, Ai played the gacha and got a “wonder egg”. Although the egg looks ordinary, what happens after it breaks is nothing normal… Ai’s reality and the world of dreams soon begin to collide. Is this a nightmare?

Wonder Egg Priority is an anime made by Studio CloverWorks that touches many sensitive things, such as mental health and disorders, so don’t let its bright and colourful art fool you. I also consider its animation one of the best of its season. But for certain reasons, I can’t say it’s my favourite anime, yet its meaningful story touched my heartstrings.

4. Angel’s Egg

Angel's Egg

Episodes: 1 (OVA)

Synopsis: The story takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where a little girl wanders aimlessly as she takes care of a giant egg. While walking through the dark and abandoned city, she meets a mysterious man who seems to remember nothing and like her, he also wanders aimlessly.

The lonely man is intrigued by the girl, thus, decides to travel with her. But who are they and what kind of mysterious content does that giant egg hide?

Angel’s Egg is an underrated anime that not many people know about, but it deserves more attention. There aren’t enough words to describe how weird yet fascinating this movie is, from its story to its art.

It’s an existentialist movie, so it’s not that easy to understand. The storytelling is confusing and the message it leaves is quite ambiguous. Still, I highly recommend it, even though it’s a slow-paced story.

5. The Anthem of the Heart

anime with eggs

Episodes: 1

Synopsis: Jun Naruse used to be an extroverted little girl living a colourful life where everything had a happy ending. But after revealing something to her mother, her happy life shattered and her family was torn apart.

After that chaotic event, Jun encountered the fairy egg. That mysterious being sealed her mouth, making her unable to speak again, thus, she won’t be able to hurt anyone again with her words.

Jun spent her days in the shadows without being able to interact with others. That changed the day she suddenly got involved in a musical at her school with other students. Can Jun convey the anthem of her heart while singing, or will she remain in the shadows forever?

The egg is mostly a symbolic element in this emotional movie. It acts as a “fairy” who punishes the protagonist for ruining her happy ending. It sounds like a fairy tale, right? But far from being a happy story full of charming moments, Anthem of the Heart had many touching scenes, so probably you’ll end up shedding some tears.

6. Mr. Dough and the Egg Princess

Mr. Dough and the Egg Princess

Episodes: 1

Synopsis: Behind a thorny forest, the witch Baba Yaga lives isolated in a watermill. One day, while cooking eggs, Baba Yaga realised that one of them couldn’t be cracked. Of course, as a witch, she couldn’t ignore that egg, so she brought it to life and named it Tamago-hime.

Ever since Tamago-hime turned into a living egg, she lived confined with the witch while doing house chores. One day, a batch of kneaded dough mysteriously came to life… And Tamago-hime took this as an opportunity to escape from the watermill with her new friend. But what kind of threats await them in the outside world?

Mr. Dough and the Egg Princess is a short film produced by Hayao Miyazaki in 2010. Being from Studio Ghibli, you can guess how enchanting its visuals and soundtracks are. It’s a simple but cute story full of creativity. There are no dialogues in the movie, so you can enjoy it no matter what language you speak!

7. Modest Heroes: Life Ain’t Gonna Lose

anime with eggs

Episodes: 1

Synopsis: Shun Yashima was born with a lethal allergy to eggs, so he can’t consume or come into contact with anything that contains them. His family always takes extra care and consider all possibilities to prevent Shun from coming into contact with eggs.

When Shun’s parents were away from home, he stayed alone and mistakenly consumed eggs…

Modest Heroes consists of three short films produced by Studio Ponoc and directed by three different directors. The second film, titled “Life Ain’t Gonna Lose”, revolves around Shun and his life-threatening allergy to eggs. It’s based on a true story, so you can expect it to have some realistic undertones.

Do you know any other anime series that have eggs in their stories?
