10 best anime with spring motifs to watch this season!

The spring season has arrived and brings with it the renewal of nature with bright green leaves and lovely flowers that adorn our atmosphere! Spring is also associated with love, youth and positive energy as it’s the season when everything comes to life after the long winter.

Everything seems positive because of the warmth of the sunlight, right? But as nature flourishes, so do our allergies… Not everything is perfect. So to forget that, there are some anime that involve spring motifs within their story and they’ll bring a warm feeling to our hearts!

Here I bring the ten best anime with spring motifs!

1. Arte

anime with spring motifs

Episodes: 12

Synopsis: The story takes place in the 16th century in Florence, Italy, the birthplace of the renaissance, where art thrives in the streets. In this vast city, we can find a young noblewoman named Arte. She dreams of becoming an artist, even though she doesn’t have society’s support.

Arte comes from an aristocratic lineage, so her family only expects her to marry a nobleman and spend her life as a housewife. But she doesn’t give up and even though she’ll need to face many challenges, she’ll do her best to persevere to achieve her dreams.

Arte is the first anime that came to my mind while I was thinking about series with spring motifs. This is a refreshing anime about a girl who follows her dreams during a period when a noblewoman had no choice but to marry. This light-hearted anime really gives off spring vibes with its warm and cute story. It’s an inspiring anime that involves a sweet romance that will make you feel the flowers blooming around you.

2. Hanayamata

Hanayamata anime

Episodes: 12

Synopsis: Naru Sekiya is an ordinary student with average intelligence that doesn’t stand out in anything. She adored fairy tales and wanted to experience a life like those tales she read, but the reality is harsh…

One day, Naru witnessed a blonde girl dancing at the gate of a shrine. At first, Naru thought the girl was a fairy, but then she realised that she was an ordinary girl. The girl’s name is Hana, a transfer student who adores the Yosakoi dance style. Hana wanted to introduce Naru to the Yosakoi world and Naru liked the idea, but she’s afraid to dance in front of others… Can she overcome her fear and change her average life once and for all?

Hanayamata is an adorable anime with vibrant visual art that gives off an energetic and youthful aura, so don’t forget to add this to your list of animated series with spring motifs. The story is quite simple, but it has its way of enchanting the viewers with its adorable moments (it’s kind of an Iyashikei anime). Also, each of the five main characters is portrayed as a flower as they do their vibrant Yosakoi performance, which provides an interesting touch.

3. Candy Candy

anime with spring motifs

Episodes: 115

Synopsis: Candy is an orphan girl who was abandoned on a snowy day at an American orphanage along with another baby. The two girls, Candy and Annie, grew up together and became great friends. One day, a family adopted Annie and soon, Candy followed the same fate. But Candy’s new life is full of challenges and as the days go by, she experiences heartbreaking and joyful moments…

Candy only had one wish, to meet her beloved “Prince of the Hill”, a boy she encountered during her life in the orphanage. Will that day ever come?

Candy Candy is an old but gold anime that fits the spring season perfectly with its beautiful story. The story provides a mix of emotions that enhances the viewing experience and leaves a lasting impact on your mind. This is a classic anime that never loses its charm.

4. To Your Eternity

Fumetsu no Anata e (To Your Eternity)

Episodes: 20

Synopsis: “It” is a mysterious orb with no identity dropped on Earth by an unknown being to start a journey of discovery. “It” has the ability to imitate living and non-living beings’ forms as long as it touches them.

During its journey, It gradually gained its own consciousness, emotions and knowledge, as well as a name, Fushi. But Fushi’s journey has just begun and mysterious entities that threaten its life and the lives of those around it lurk in the shadows.

To Your Eternity isn’t my favourite anime, but I can’t deny that it’s a gem that deserves recognition. The story is gripping and makes us realise that life can be full of beauty and also suffering, but that doesn’t mean we should stop growing as people. Just as nature goes through its cycle of withering and blossoming, humans do the same but in a different way and this anime portrays that aspect splendidly.

5. Kaguya-sama: Love is War

anime with spring motifs

Episodes: 24 (Two Seasons)

Synopsis: Kaguya Shinomiya and Miyuki Shirogane are the top representatives of the Student Council at Shuchiin Academy. Both students are considered geniuses and always have the highest rank among all, but being at the top can be lonely. After spending much time together, Miyuki and Kaguya eventually developed feelings for each other, but they were too proud to admit it!

For Miyuki and Kaguya, love is war, so whoever confesses their feelings first will lose and they’ll use any means to win this battle!

Assuming that spring is also considered as the love season, I couldn’t leave out this entertaining romantic anime that will surely make you laugh. Of course, the butterflies will also fly around you from time to time with its refreshing yet funny romance scenes.

6. Yuki Yuna is a Hero

Yuki Yuna is a Hero

Episodes: 36 (Three Seasons)

Synopsis: The story takes place in the year 300, considered the Era of Gods. Yuuna Yuki seems like an average student whose days consist of attending classes, participating in her club activities and spending time with her friends. But there’s something particular about her, she’s a member of the Hero Club, where she helps and protects others.

One day, the Hero Club is asked to save the world from the Vertex, mysterious forces that threaten to destroy the world. With this dangerous task, Yuuna and the club’s members will discover what it means to be a true hero.

What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear the word spring? Because the first thing I think of is flowers and in Yuki Yuna is a Hero, flowers are a meaningful element. There are many flower motifs in this anime and as you watch it, you’ll also notice their symbolic purpose.

7. Akagami no Shirayuki-hime

anime with spring motifs

Episodes: 24 (Two Seasons)

Synopsis: Shirayuki works as a herbalist in the country of Tanbarun, but she mainly stands out for her beauty and bright red hair. Due to that, Prince Rajin wanted to force her to become his concubine. Shirayuki doesn’t want to give up her freedom and thus, she decides to run away.

As Shirayuki heads towards the forest, she encounters a mysterious guy who rescues her from the clutches of Prince Rajin. To her surprise, the guy is the Second Prince of Clarines, Zen Wistalia, who offers her to come with him to become a court pharmacist.

Akagami no Shirayuki-hime is another romance anime that never loses its charm. No matter how many years pass, it always leaves me with a warm feeling. Also, there are many green settings as the main protagonist works as a herbalist. Watching Shirayuki work in the greenhouse provides a satisfying and quite relaxing feeling, so I think it’s a great choice if you’re looking for anime with spring motifs.

8. Your Lie in April

Your Lie in April

Episodes: 22

Synopsis: Kousei Arima grew up following the music path and became a genius pianist from a young age. But after his mother passed away, he couldn’t enjoy music as he used to and became unable to hear the sound of his own music.

Kouhei spent his days living a dull and average life accompanied by his two friends, Tsubaki and Ryouta. But Kouhei’s monotonous life came to an end when he met Kaori Miyanozo, a beautiful and cheerful violinist. She’s determined to free Kouhei’s imprisoned soul and make him return to the music world again.

I declare another April with this anime inaugurated! Although it’s guaranteed that you’ll cry while watching Your Lie in April, this is an iconic must-watch anime during this month. I bet this beautiful anime will make you overflow with different emotions!

9. Ao Haru Ride

anime with spring motifs

Episodes: 12 + OVA

Synopsis: Futaba Yoshioka used to be a popular girl in school and was well liked by the boys. But because of her popularity, the girls despised her. She also had a crush on her classmate, Kou Tanaka, but due to a misunderstanding, she couldn’t confess her feelings and never saw him again.

For that reason, before she became a high school student, she decides to “start” again and become a likeable girl, so she began acting as a tomboyish girl. Futaba was ready to face anything, but she wasn’t prepared to face Kou again… What’s worse, Kou is no longer the same sweet boy she used to know.

Ao Haru Ride screams “youth” and “love” with its romantic and slightly dramatic story, but that’s why I find this anime so enjoyable. The story revolves around our young protagonists trying their best to ride this wave called youth while enjoying their life. So, if you want to watch a good rom-com anime during this season, I totally recommend this one.

10. Karigurashi no Arrietty

Karigurashi no Arriety

Episodes: 1

Synopsis: Arriety and her family are tiny people known as “Borrowers” who live under the floorboards of a house and borrow items from humans to survive. Yet, their existence is unknown to humans and this is how things should stay. Once Arriety became old enough to go to the surface to borrow items, she was accompanied by her father. But they didn’t expect to be discovered by Shou, a sickly boy who went to spend his summer in his great aunt’s house.

Now, Arriety’s family doesn’t know what to do and fears for their safety. Yet, Arriety doesn’t see Shou as someone dangerous, so she befriends him, but what kind of unexpected events will arise with this new friendship?

Karigurashi no Arriety is a movie that I always watch at the beginning of spring… You can say that it’s some kind of ritual to start this season with the best vibes. To be honest, I don’t exactly know why I started doing this… But there’s something in this Ghibli movie that makes me feel the warm sensation that spring brings.

So maybe you can join my ritual and watch this amazing movie to start this season with the best vibes!
