Genshin Impact Noelle Review: The loveliest knight maid

*Contains spoilers

From the time a player lands at the world of Teyvat, Noelle is one of the first guaranteed characters that they’ll obtain in the Beginners’ Wish. So, aside from the free characters like Amber, Kaeya or Lisa, Noelle would be by the players’ side from the very beginning.

Here I bring a review of the sweet Noelle from Genshin Impact!

Noelle’s Overview

Genshin Impact Noelle review

Noelle is a Geo claymore character from Genshin Impact and she’s the featured 4-stars in Beginners’ Wish.

Noelle is a maid who works at the Knights of Favonius. Although she’s not a knight yet, she dreams of becoming one and joining the order to protect Mondstadt.

Lore’s Review

Genshin Impact Noelle review

Noelle has been training for years to become a knight of Favonius. Even if she’s not one yet, she works hard as a faithful maid for the order until she can achieve her dream.

Unlike other maids, Noelle’s ambitions are big. She takes every opportunity she gets to learn and hone her skills to pass the selection trials. But aside from that, she loves to help others, claiming that people could count on her on absolutely anything.

Genshin Impact Noelle review

In Mondstadt, Noelle is everywhere and whenever someone needs help, she’d miraculously appear to lend her hand. How? No one knows, it’s her special ability. For Noelle, her job as a maid should be done to the letter, no more, no less.

But sometimes, Noelle’s kindness can worry others because she usually thinks of others’ safety before hers.

There was one time when an adventurer got trapped in Dragonspine and guess who went to rescue him? Exactly, Noelle. On her way to the icy mountains, there was a chaotic snowstorm, but she never gave up until she found him inside a cave.

Noelle’s clothes were all soaked at the time and she had no food or water. Despite the challenges she faced, she carried the adventurer on her back until they reached Mondstadt. She managed to save the adventurer, but at the same time, she paid the price for over-exerting herself and suffered from a high fever for three entire days. Everyone was worried about her and the knights hardly slept out of concern.

Genshin Impact Noelle review

Ever since that moment, the Acting Grandmaster, Jean, needed to invent safe jobs for Noelle to prevent her from putting herself in danger again.

When Noelle failed her seven selection trial, she felt discouraged and even if she didn’t want to give up, her body was exhausted. Noelle’s mind was drowning in despair, thinking that she was a failure who wouldn’t be remembered by anyone.

At that moment, Jean walked out of the Knights Headquarters and without much thought, Noelle gave her a knights’ salute. After doing so, she realised she had been too abrupt. But to her surprise, Jean stopped and returned her salute.

Genshin Impact Noelle review

Perhaps, that was the most important day for Noelle because she was recognised not only by the Acting Grandmaster but also by the gods. That day, she obtained her Vision. From that moment, Noelle knew that she would one day wear the knights’ armour with pride, she just had to be patient.

Noelle as a playable character review

Noelle's Splash Art

Noelle is a defensive character that can be extremely useful depending on the situation because she can be used as a tank, healer or DPS. Although as we get more characters, we may get some that are better than Noelle at healing or as a shielder…

Noelle’s E skill “Breastplate”, deals Geo DMG to surrounding enemies as it creates a shield that surrounds your characters. While the shield is active, Noelle’s normal and charged attacks have a chance to heal her teammates, but if you switch characters, they won’t be able to heal anyone. The amount of healing and DMG the shield absorbs is based on Noelle’s DEF. The bad side is that her E skill won’t produce elemental particles, so her energy recharge is pretty bad.

Noelle's E skill Breatsplate

Noelle can be of great help if your active character is about to pass down, thanks to her first Passive Talent “Devotion”. If she isn’t on-field, she’ll provide assistance to your team. Whenever your active character’s HP drops below 30%, she’ll create a shield that will last for 20 seconds.

The Burst skill “Sweeping Time”, makes Noelle a potential DPS character as it converts her normal attacks into Geo DMG. The Geo DMG can’t be overridden by other elemental infusions. While the Burst is active, Noelle’s attacks will have a larger AoE. Noelle’s attacks will get a boost based on her DEF. So putting a lot of emphasis on her DEF and ATK will provide you with the best results.

Noelle’s Burst lasts 15 seconds and it has a 15-second CD as well, so it’s easy to spam her Ultimate. Of course, that will depend on her ER… As I mentioned, her Energy Recharge is bad, so it’s not easy to charge her Burst. For that reason, it’s usually better to pair her with a character that can act like a battery in her team. It’ll also help using claymores that create elemental particles like Favonius Greatsword.

Although Noelle is a flexible character, it’s better to put her in a team with other Geo characters because she’ll benefit from the resonance. That resonance will boost the shield strength by 15%. The characters protected by the shield will have their DMG increased by 15% and dealing damage to enemies will decrease their Geo Res by 20%.

But Noelle’s damage is mainly based on her constellations, well, she is useful at C0. Yet, to exploit her full potential, players will need to get her Constellations.

Noelle Full Constellation

At C1, the chance of healing characters while using her Burst and E skills will be increased to 100%. C2 will reduce her stamina consumption by 20% while using her Charged attacks and boost the DMG dealt by 15%.

Still, Noelle shines the best at C6 because her Burst skill will increase her ATK by 50% based on her DEF. Assuming that players build her with a high DEF, her Burst DMG will increase considerably at C6.

Strengths

  • Noelle has a high defence
  • Noelle’s E skill can heal the whole team
  • The Burst skill turns Noelle’s normal attacks into wide range Geo DMG
  • Noelle is a versatile character because she’s a shielder, a healer and can also work as a DPS

Weaknesses

  • Noelle has a long E skill cooldown
  • Noelle doesn’t have good Energy Recharge and hence, she’ll need to be paired with characters that can work as a battery for her
  • Noelle needs Constellations to boost her damage, so she works better as a DPS at C6

Recommended artifacts and weapons

As I mentioned before, Noelle is a versatile character, so players can either build her as a supporting character or as a DPS. For the early game, she works best as support since players won’t get her to C6 that easily.

To build Noelle as support, players need to focus on stats like DEF and Energy Recharge. For DPS Noelle, players should focus on DEF, Geo DMG bonus and CRIT DMG/rate stats. But I highly recommend having her at C6 before building her as a DPS. But if you don’t have her at C6 and still want to build her as a DPS, you can prioritise ATK instead of DEF.

Support (Shield and Heal)

Artifacts:

Maiden Beloved and Retracing Bolide sets
  • 4-piece set Maiden Beloved: This set will maximise the healing provided by her skills. It works amazing as you won’t need to spend a lot of time on-field to heal your party fully, thus, you can switch characters faster.

Or:

  • 2piece set Maiden Beloved: It’ll increase Noelle’s healing effectiveness by 15%.
  • 2-piece set Retracing Bolide: It’ll increase Noelle’s shield strength by 35%.

New players can use a 4-piece set The Exile as an alternative option.

Best Weapons:

Genshin Impact Noelle review
  • Whiteblind (craftable 4-stars): This weapon has DEF as a secondary stat and will increase Noelle’s ATK and DEF as she hits enemies (max 4 stacks).
  • Sacrificial Greatsword (4-stars): It has ER as a secondary stat that will help with Noelle’s ER problems. It also has a chance to end the current E skill CD.
  • Favonius Greatsword (4-stars): Its passive has a chance to generate elemental particles, regenerating 6 energy for Noelle. Its secondary stat is ER.

Geo DPS

Artifacts:

Retracing Bolide and Gladiators Finale sets
  • 4-piece set Retracing Bolide: Aside from increasing Noelle’s shield strength, it’ll boost Noelle’s Normal and Charged attack DMG by 40% while protected by a shield.

Or:

  • 4-piece set Gladiators Finale: It’ll increase Noelle’s ATK by 18%. As a claymore wielder, her Normal attack DMG will increase by 35%.

Best Weapons:

Genshin Impact Noelle review
  • Redhorn Stonethresher (5-stars): It has CRIT DMG as a secondary stat and it’ll increase Noelle’s DEF by 28%. It’ll also boost her Normal and Charged attacks DMG by 40% of her DEF stats.
  • Skyward Pride (5-stars): It has ER as a secondary stat which will help to fill Noelle’s Burst skill. After using her Normal, Charged attacks or E skill, the weapon will create a vacuum blade that deals additional DMG.
  • Serpent Spine (4-stars): If you’ve access to the Battle Pass, this weapon is a great option for Noelle. It’ll increase Noelle’s CRIT rate and she’ll deal 6% more DMG every 4 seconds she’s active on-field. The bad thing is that she’ll receive 3% more damage as well, so players need to be careful with it.
  • Whiteblind (craftable 4-stars): This craftable weapon increases Noelle’s ATK and DEF when she hits enemies with Normal or Charged attacks. Plus, it has DEF as a secondary stat.
  • Favonius Greatsword (4-stars): DPS Noelle benefits a lot from the ER that this weapon provides as her Burst can get recharged faster.

Is it worth building Noelle?

Genshin Official Art

In my opinion, Noelle is great for the early game and new players can take advantage of her versatility to build a good team while just starting out. It’s also easy to adapt to her play style too.

The best thing is that Noelle is a F2P friendly character and as a 4-star, players will get her C6 sooner or later.

Although I stopped using Noelle a long time ago, I still have a soft spot for her and I love her character. Yet, after getting characters that fit my teams better, I forget about her (sorry Noelle). She’s a good character, but in my opinion, she’s not the best of the best either.

So I recommend building Noelle if you’re new and if you like her game style, you’ll probably still keep her in your team as you advance in ranks. In the end, it all depends on the player’s preferences.
